"I've never been a kiss-up. It's just not how I operate. I mean, I've always subscribed to the idea that if you really want to impress your boss, you go in there and you do mediocre work. Halfheartedly."

- Jim, from The Office

From Cat

Each of the three books is concerned with a week in the life of ordinary people, all of who find themselves suddenly confronted by love, death and power. I have always believed that in the lives of individual, just as in society at large, the profoundest changes take place within a very reduced time frame. When we least expect it, life sets us a challenge to test our courage and willingness to change; at such a moment, there is no point in pretending that nothing has happened or in saying that we are not ready.

The challenge will not wait. Life does not look back. A week is more than enough time for us to decide whether or not to accept our destiny.

Holy crap! Tomorrow is my last day at work!

I'm a mixture of excitement with a dash of trepidation. Without making my (current, soon-to-be-ex) job sound like a complete drag, I honestly think this is not unlike what prisoners feel when they go on parole:

"What the hell am I gonna do with myself!?!"

You know what, though? I have a really reassuring thought: my whole friggin' life is just ahead of me.

Awesome, ain't it?

I wonder if there are brokenhearted people out there right now who feel completely alone. If you're reading this, I hope you can at least feel that no, you are not alone.

That's Me

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman

Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

The Upsides

Someone broke into my car by smashing the front-passenger window. While it may seem like a pretty shitty situation (having to take time off work, getting the window replaced and then paying for it, losing my Ripstick), I think this experience has actually provided me with more upsides than anything else.
  1. My car is so much cleaner and neater now, since I had to remove everything.
  2. I realized that a lot of things don't really matter to me. This will make the whole cleaning / purging / packing process a helluvalot easier. For real.
  3. I thought I handled the otherwise stressful situation pretty well, but it provided me with an opportunity to see how I can even better improve. Perhaps next time I won't even let it faze me. I will be in clutch-mode from the get-go.
  4. Also, I realized that any problem that can be solved with money you can spare? Not really a problem. Yep, I'm problem-free. I rock!
I've always been lucky throughout my life. It's definitely a beautiful combination of meeting the right people and being in the right frame of mind. No, I'm not the richest / smartest / prettiest / anything'est by any mean. But for me, I'm the luckiest. And happiest. And I'm so glad.

Yes, this is the life of Chung. And, yeah, life is good. (;

Resolution #29,847: Take Things Less Seriously

I definitely fall victim to takes-things-way-too-seriously'itis. It's a horrible disease and it usually plagues boring, bureaucratic-minded people, but that doesn't mean that otherwise rational, carefree, lighthearted people don't fall victim occasionally.

It's like a cold.

The thing is: nothing really matters in the big scheme of things. Sure, sure, you can't be living your whole life thinking that your actions are inconsequential because, well, what may seem like small potatoes to you can actually be a huge, effing deal to someone else. But that's the magic of it: you can only control your actions and your reactions to things.

So, I resolve to not take things too seriously when bad, or otherwise unpleasant or undesirable, things occur. It seems like way too much work to even waste my time and energy on it when, my time and energy can be better spent on eating great food, bettering myself, or otherwise just being awesome. And I love being awesome (I am a fan of it on Facebook, after all).
